LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Robyn Ayres and her husband told ABC News that she was searching for the "angel" who paid over half the family's Christmas present bill.

When Robyn went to make a small payment toward the times, which totaled $283, the Walmart employee informed her that the minimum payment had already been made.

"He said, 'A woman saw you and she said [she] wanted to pay a portion of your bill,'" Ayres said. "[A]nd I just started crying. She paid more than half of our bill. It was crazy."

Ayres was left owing only $130 of the initial $283 bill and when she payed off the remaining balance a note was discovered on the back of her receipt.

The note read, "I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas. The lord is always with you! Have a blessed Holiday Season!"

The Ayres couple were grateful for the generosity and were especially touched after suffering a difficult holiday season.

"Within the last year," Robyn said, "we had to put our family dog to sleep and had to pay to do that. We've had several financial setbacks. Our stove busted on Thanksgiving so we didn't have that and it just pushes you back. We almost lost our house a few years ago and just to see someone doing this just makes us so happy.

"I wish there was a way to thank the woman. I would just say thank you for restoring our faith in humanity in a time that is pretty much dark."

In an effort to reach the anonymous "angel," Ayres took to Twitter with a picture of the receipt and the message, "This stranger paid 4 our layaway. I wish I could thank her 4 helping give our kids a Merry Christmas! U r an angel."
