Little girl looking Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you. Help Now >

Our Lady has made promises to us that

Everyone is worrying about terrorism. We worry about congregating in public. Is the mall safe, the school? What about church? We worry about our holy father, is Pope Francis safe? Is the Vatican a target? How should we as Catholics be in a world fraught with danger?

As the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe arrives, we recall how she comforted Juan Diego. Her words of comfort to him, are also words for us.

Juan Diego was already an elderly man when he encountered Our Lady on Tepayac Hill. As a young man, he would have known Aztec rule and the terror they wielded to enforce brutal order.

Human sacrifice was a routine part of Aztec ritual and Juan Diego likely faced a chance at this fate as a young man. Terror is nothing new. It is an ancient practice, a way to control and influence people.

Today's terrorists are no less bloody. Beheadings, crucifixions and other gruesome forms of execution are often used to control people.

Terrorists use shootings and bombs to inflict paralyzing fear on people like you and me.

But we have no reason to be afraid! Our Lady is with us, and listens to our prayers.

Our Lady said to a trembling Juan Diego, "Let not your heart be troubled. Am I not your mother? Are you not in the crossing of my arms?"

It's important for us to remember this. Is not Our Lady our mother? Are we not in the crossing of her arms too?

Indeed, we are! Our Lady has promised that those who pray her rosary will receive special protection. Both in this world and in the next we will receive intercession and grace.

No person who believes in the sincere promises of Our Lady and who prays the Rosary, should ever worry. So in this time of danger, when evil men seek to harm the innocent, we win if we remain steadfast in our faith. The goal of all evildoers is to trouble us, to cause sorrow. When we proceed unafraid, when we perform our faithful duty as Juan Diego did, we witness the grace of God. We enjoy the protection of Our Lady.
