LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The truth is under siege. Pick any issue that interests you. It could be immigration, financial reform, climate discussions, whether a treaty or an agreement is good or bad, it doesn't matter. You pick the issue and good luck finding the truth.
The world's media is controlled by just six corporate families.
GE, Newscorp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner and CBS own and control the national media and then some. According to Business Insider, just 232 souls, mostly working together, control the information that 318 million Americans receive, every day.
Even basic information is so badly distorted, the truth is unintelligible. How does the Federal Government spend your tax dollars? No two charts agree. Your reality is shaped by agendas, and not by the truth.
The sad fact is, only a few independent media outlets, like Catholic Online, are even trying to deliver the truth to you. You see, the truth has no political agenda. Despite that, every bit of information is spun to disinform and confuse you, because once you have a clear picture of what's really going on, you'll be angry.
If you're not angry, it's because you're not paying attention.
Catholic media is not much better. Catholic news outlets, while we bless and pray for their work, are too concerned with their public image to tell the whole truth. They stick to the Pope and the synods and the issues that confront the Church directly, but they hardly acknowledge that every single issue is a Catholic issue.
When you are truly Catholic, you realize that Catholic is a worldview, it is a way of life. Every issue is viewable through the Catholic lens, which is the lens of truth. It does not pay to turn away from the truth because it is unpleasant. What kind of people are we if we only concern ourselves with Pope Francis' doings and the canonization of saints? The world is wide and vast, and it is sometimes ugly and horrifying. More importantly, we ignore its backslide into evil at our peril.
Our outspoken defense of the truth has drawn us tremendous resistance. Satan is literally attacking Catholic Online from every direction. Most visibly, our Facebook was shut down after the page was hacked by Muslim attackers on September 1. From that day forward, over one million followers on Facebook lost one of the most important newsfeeds in their lives.
Other attacks range from demonstrably false and libelous allegations, to hostile persecution. Death threats are mailed in. Extortion is attempted. Yet, Catholic Online is protected. Consecrated to Our Lady, nothing destroys us. The truth cannot be silenced. It can be twisted, its messengers can be intimidated, but it cannot change.
Catholic Online continues to fight to stay online and to broadcast the truth in an environment that is becoming increasingly hostile to independent media outlets. There is no buyout offer we will accept, there are no threats that can turn us away from our work.
We need your help, and before you worry, no, we don't want money. What we want are faithful readers who will share the truth with their friends, family and neighbors.
Pledge right now to visit Catholic Online every single day. Read at least one article every single day. Watch one video every single day, a news video, a prayer video, perhaps a video about a saint. Sign up for a newsletter. Above all, pray for us, pray for the nation, and the Church, and pray that the Truth wins out against the forces of evil.
We need your help more than ever. You need to make Catholic Online part of your day, every single day. If you do not help us, who else will? And if we don't get help, we cannot be the lone, Catholic voice for truth. Where else will you turn after that?
If you have a single candle in the dark, you watch it and care for its flame. It is the only light you have. Catholic Online is that light, take care of it now.
Again, we are not asking you for your money, all we are asking you to do is just visit us at Catholic.org, read one article every day AND subscribe to our YouTube channel, watch one video every day then share this information and you will be making a difference in the world.
