What to wear to church: What's more important, physical or inner beauty?
FREE Catholic Classes
Wearing your best outfit or putting on a little makeup in preparation for Church isn't too looked down upon. A leading Christian writer shared with Crosswalk.com what she has realized over years of church participation. Although she loves beautiful clothes and make-up, she decides to opt out on spending much time on her outward appearance, rather than what she offers to worship from within herself.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "When the shirt covering our hearts becomes more important than the purity therein, it is a major problem. When the heart that graces our inside is less important than the new necklace draped across its outside, we are in dangerous territory," wrote Jennifer Maggio, the award-winning Christian writer and speaker who had founded The Life of a Single Mom Ministries.
In her article "What You are Wearing to Church," she shared moments that made her realize how we look is not as important as we make it out to be - looks are part of who we are, but there is more.
Maggio noted that we are taught to be our very best before God, but that doesn't necessarily mean our best is brought out by make-up, clothes and jewelery. One encounter, with a beautiful woman, inspired her to inspire other women, and even men, to be more prepared on the inside when sitting before the Lord.
She described the woman, a pastor's wife and minister to women, as a gem - fashionable and all. Struck with awe and in tears, during her realizations, when the woman removed her heels to kneel down and worship, face down in the name of the Lord.
In order to spend more time actually with God than on physical preparation, Maggio said it is best to bring our pure heart, welcoming all in.
