New Testament-prophesied Battle of Armageddon may have been located.

A recent discovery in the Legio Camp, in Tel Megiddo, Israel, uncovered what is believed to be Roman military headquarters from the early years of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism. The archaeological discover also speculates the site to be the Battle of Armageddon, as described and foretold in a prophecy narrated in the New Testament.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Rare Christian inscriptions, referring to "Jesus Christos," were uncovered in a recent archaeological expedition in the Legio Camp in Israel. The excavations' co-director Yotam Tepper told reports the site is discovered in a very fascinating location - the future site of the Battle of Armageddon as described in the pages of the New Testament.

Earlier artifacts have been uncovered since 2005 and featured modern-day Megiddo prison. Tepper confirmed that since the recent discovery, this is the first time that a confirmed military headquarter was discovered within the vast territories of the lands once ruled by the Roman Empire.

"It's the first legion camp found in the Eastern side of the Roman Empire," Tepper said.

Scale armors, roofing tiles, military imprints and what is believed to be drainage pipes and ditches are some of the artifacts uncovered during the expedition. A full size base that measures around 300 meters by 500 meters was unearthed by archaeologists, together with Jonathan David and Matthew Adams, researchers assigned the location.

The area is believed to be the center of the Bar Kokhva Revolt Jewish Rebellion camp, where the commander's house was located.

It is believed that a total of 5,000 soldiers may have been housed on this camp, that also features main roads and interconnecting areas leading to the center of the site.

The prophecy of the Battle of Armageddon is said to be a physical war between the country of Israel and other nations. Russia, Syria and Iran are the predicted nations believed to be engaging a physical war with Israel.

Some reports claim the Battle of Armageddon is not a physical war at all but an asteroid hitting planet Earth. The end of times has always been related with the nation of Israel, thus the Battle of Armageddon has always been believed to happen in one of the ancient cities of the country.

The dig was conducted by the Jezreel Valley regional Project, together with the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research. The Israel Antiquities Authority has also supported the exploration.
