We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

5 wonderful ways to remind yourself Jesus is always with you

Through praying and suffering, Jesus never leaves our side.

All our troubles and hardships may sway us from the idea that Jesus is always with us, no matter what we're doing or what we're currently going through. If anything, our hardships should bring us closer to Him. We sway from Him because for most of us, Jesus is just a concept. We should know that this is not so. Jesus is with us always. Jesus is guiding us always. Jesus is always cheering us on.

1. Jesus is both human and God

We are separated from God because we are merely humans who have committed countless sins since Adam and Eve, while He is perfect. Because God loves us so, He sacrificed His only son Jesus Christ to bridge the gap sin has created.

"Behold, the virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel, which is translated, 'God with us.'" (Matthew 1:23 LEB)

Jesus took the form of a human being to join the spiritual with the physical.

"And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14 LEB)

Jesus' humanity allowed Him to suffer for us, and with this, He can relate to us. When we suffer, Jesus suffers with us. This makes him both human and God.

2. Jesus suffers with us

In the beginning, Jesus proclaimed His purpose,

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord." (Luke 4:18-19 LEB)

Jesus is with those who suffer. He guides them and stands alongside them as they go through their pain. When we serve those who are in need, we serve Him. Jesus once explained to His disciples what will happen at the end of all things,

"Then the righteous will answer [the King, Jesus], saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you as a guest, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?' And the king [Jesus] will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.'" (Matthew 25:37-40 LEB)

3. Jesus is with us through the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is within us. The Holy Spirit brings renewal to our lives through the Holy Spirit's relationship within the Trinity. With this relationship, we are connected with Jesus and God the Father. Jesus tells his disciples,

"But when he-the Spirit of truth-comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and will proclaim it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he takes from what is mine and will proclaim it to you."
(John 16:13-15 LEB)

4. We see Jesus when we break bread in His name

After His resurrection, Jesus walks with two of His disciples who, at first, did not recognize Him even when He told of the scriptures. They hear the story, but they did not believe. Until,

"When [Jesus] reclined at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks, and after breaking it, he gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became invisible to them. And they said to one another, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?'" (Luke 24:30-32 LEB)

We see Jesus by remembering Him, by His sacrificial acts and blessings. It is in the meal and in the act of remembering Him through the Eucharist that we see Him as He is.

5. Jesus is in the movement to spread His teachings and lessons

To the people who do not see Jesus with them, suffering is not only physical, but also spiritual. The lack of Jesus in their hearts brings a form of affliction that only the word of God can heal.

Without His guidance, there is no cure. Without Him, there is more suffering.
Jesus met his eleven remaining apostles after His resurrection and said,

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age."
(Matthew 28:18-20 LEB)

We must also take part in spreading Jesus' words but we cannot do this if we, ourselves, do not accept the fact that Jesus is always right here with us.
