Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (Catholic Online) - The extended waiting period is intended to give women more time to make an informed decision among alternatives to a dangerous, medically invasive procedure that will bring about the death of a child. Without any waiting period, women could be at risk of making a coerced decision.

Women can still get abortions, but now they will have time to consider the procedure before letting an abortionist into their bodies.

Understandably Planned Parenthood is angry that the will of the people of Utah, as expressed through their legislature, stands in reasonable opposition to their agenda.

Utah's Director of Planned Parenthood, Karrie Galloway said, "For some people that may be a point of celebration. For others it may be a point of heartache. Women make good decisions and think about their decisions and the legislature telling them how long they need to think about their decision, it's insulting."

However, what's insulting is the notion of abortion-on-demand without time to think about the decision whereas with any other medically invasive procedure, there is always a waiting period. Excepting emergencies, a person cannot even get life-saving surgery without waiting several days or even weeks. Yet Planned Parenthood is upset because they cannot rush women through the abortion mill.

One of the bill's sponsors, Steve Eliason (R - District 45) said "I think it's a positive change for women and children. At the end of the day, it's a consumer-protection law. The focus of this bill is women having time to consider all of the information that is given to them when facing a life-altering decision that somebody else is making money off of."

Hopefully, the new waiting period saves lives and changes attitudes about abortion practices in America.
