We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Scientists have developed an electronic tattoo to monitor human activity

Has the "mark of the beast" arrived? Less than the thickness of a human hair, an electronic micro-patch that adheres to the skin like a temporary tattoo can change everything. Painless and nearly invisible, a person (or victim) can wear the patch without hardly knowing it was there. From the positive, to the downright sinister, the uses of the patch are bounded only by human imagination, for better or worse.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The patch, called an epidermal electronic system (EES) was invented as a cooperative effort between scientists from the United States, Singapore, and--China.  "It's a technology that blurs the distinction between electronics and biology," said co-author John Rogers, a professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

"Our goal was to develop an electronic technology that could integrate with the skin in a way that is mechanically and physiologically invisible to the user." The device can power itself with miniature solar collectors or by picking up background electromagnetic radiation.

Advocates claim the device can revolutionize virtually everything. It can be used to replace bulky electrodes presently used in medicine to monitor heart, muscle, and brain activity, or it can serve as an electrical bandage to help speed healing from burn injuries.

It can be used for computer gaming and has been tested, allowing users to operate a voice-controlled video game. It can also transform spy operations, or even be used to monitor individual activity. Because the device can transmit data it could potentially serve as a human barcode, which should raise alarms for privacy advocates.

The device still needs additional design and development before it becomes practical, but given the myriad of uses for private and government agencies, it is sure to be relentlessly developed--and deployed, and that right soon.
