Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Loneliness is one of the devil's strongest forms of attack.
Recall Robin Williams' death. His films continue to be cherished by people of all ages, but one of his most famous quotes was, "I used to think the worst think in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone."
Those words come as a painful reminder that a man known for spreading joy could leave behind such a sorrowful message that rings true for billions around the world. The first thing to remember when you are feeling alone, particularly when you are surrounded by friends, family -or even when you are at church - recall that God never abandons you.
2 Timothy 4:17 says, "But the Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed for all the gentiles to hear; and so I was saved from the lion's mouth."
This verse reminds us all that God is always by our sides and he gives us power to stand above the lies of the devil. The second thing you should attempt to recall is the fact that loneliness can be cured by joining something greater than yourself.
Though this is difficult for many people to do, all it takes is immersing yourself in something like a Bible study, church group, book club or even an online community.
If you feel left out during social events, step up and start talking to someone. People often swarm to others they are familiar with, but when that isn't an option you can just approach a group and jump in!
Sometimes people who feel left out appear unapproachable. Sometimes it is because of a stony face, uninviting body language or the fact that they are staring at the ground. Most don't even realize they are doing these things.
God doesn't want us to be alone, recall Genesis 2:18, "God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shall make him a helper.'"
Genesis 2:18 reminds us that God does not want us to be alone. Remember this when you find yourself feeling lonely in the future, then take steps to pull yourself from the lie of the devil whispering that you have no one and nowhere to turn.
