We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Being inactive can lead to other health problems.

In fact, the impact of physical inactivity has been claimed as the reason for more fatalities than the collective effect of smoking, obesity and diabetes.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Physical inactivity, needless to say, has dire consequences. It is connected to the development of lasting health problems, including heart disease, obesity, dementia and cancer. Most of all, it is important to understand that the consequence of physical inactivity is a generational one.

A growing population of children nowadays succumb to a more sedentary way of life, coupled with dread associated with outdoor activities. Barriers like these can potentially frame their adult inactive or sedentary life.

There is an intensifying call from sectors such as healthcare, academic and government to introduce and put physical activity resolutely at the core of our healthcare system. In the UK alone, 60-70 percent of people have an insufficient amount of exercise in their life. Nearly 25 percent of the adult population is categorized as obese, and the remaining nearly 60 percent are categorized as overweight.

Regular physical activity can extend your life by about four years and reduce the risk of heart disease or deteriorating bones. It can benefit you cognitively, psychologically and of course, physically endowing you with muscle strength and endurance you need in your daily life.

The first step may be very difficult, but it will become truly rewarding in no time. Make a plan and write down your motivation, and clarify your goals. Why do you want to engage in physical activity? When do you want to achieve it? However, don't be too hard on yourself.

You can engage in physical activity with your daily activities simply with utilizing outdoor spaces, group-park runs and even local exercise groups that are emerging. You must be persistent and encourage the people around you as well.
