We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Life lasts longer, but risks of getting sicker also grow.

It seems as though most of the world's population is now able to experience a higher standard of life and life expectancy, and span also appears stretched longer. However, a new study intends to prove that the world's population is getting sicker, despite the aforementioned higher standards of living and longer life expectancy.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to the new global health review, 4 percent of the world's population had no health issues or problems in 2013. Conversely, a third of the world's population, which is around 2.3 billion people, experienced more than five health troubles that same year, 2013.

The health review stated, "Comorbidity rose substantially with age and in absolute terms from 1990 to 2013," because people are now able to live longer. Additionally, the proportion of years lost to illness has increased quite drastically from 21 percent in 1990 to 31 percent today, according to the "Global Burden of Disease." The world's aging population strictly implies that there will be more and more sick people to take care of.

A British health magazine released a study on June 8 that reviewed data from 188 countries, looking at more than 300 illnesses and injuries. The study argued that arthritis, back, neck pain, and other types of musculoskeletal problems, together with mental health issues and substance abuse disorders, cause almost half of all the lost healthy years.

A "startling rise" in cases of arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes were noted. Authors of the study claim, "Large, preventable causes of health loss, particularly serious musculoskeletal disorders and mental and behavioral disorders, have not received the attention that they deserve."

Adding that, "addressing these issues will require a shift in health priorities around the world, not just to keep people alive into old age, but also to keep them healthy."
