We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA - (Rise Above Health) Your eyes are an important part of your health. To make sure your eyes are healthy and you are seeing your best. Follow these simple steps for maintaining healthy eyes well into your golden years.
No child should go hungry, please help today
1. Eat for your eyes health.
Protecting your eyes starts with the food you eat. Omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E are believed to help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts. Eating a well-balanced diet also helps prevent type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults. Here is a list of the best eye foods you can eat:
Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and collardsSalmon, tuna, and other oily fishEggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sourcesOranges and other citrus fruits or juices
2. Quit Smoking - Need I say more?
Smoking increases the likelihood of developing cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. If you've tried to quit smoking before and started smoking again, don't give up, just keep trying.
3. Wear Sunglasses
Everyone knows that UV radiation can damage skin, but often they don't realize it's also bad for your eyes. You wear your sunglasses only when it's sunny? That's like saying 'I only smoke sometimes.' The right kind of sunglasses will help protect your eyes from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Wear sunglasses big enough to block the light from above and below-they should have thick sides or wrap around. Contact lens wearers can wear contacts with UV coating, and also wear sunglasses.
4. Blink while looking at your Computer Screen.
The average person blinks their eyes 15 - 20 times a minute. Staring at a computer screen, the average person only blinks 4 times a minute, causing:
EyestrainBlurry visionTrouble focusing at a distanceDry eyesHeadaches
Computer Vision Syndrome
Every 20 minutes, rest your eyes by looking at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Get up every hour or so and take a break, your back will appreciate it.
5. Use Safety Eyewear.
If you work with hazardous or airborne materials on the job or at home, wear safety glasses or protective goggles every time.Certain sports such as ice hockey, racquetball, and lacrosse can also lead to eye injury. Wear eye protection (such as helmets with protective face masks or sports goggles with polycarbonate lenses) to shield your eyes.
Even if you think your vision is just fine and that your eyes are healthy, visit your eye care professional for a comprehensive eye exam annually. Regular comprehensive eye exams can help you protect your sight and make sure that you are seeing your best.
My Tip of the Day: Tame a tension headache by rubbing peppermint oil, Tiger Balm, or white flower oil into your temples. All three remedies contain menthol, which has analgesic properties.
I believe that Faith can move Mountains!
