LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The first two things God created were the heavens and the Earth. He didn't create them just to sit around looking nice.
He created them for us.
God created more and more until he created Adam and Eve, giving them dominion over the beautiful Earth he lovingly formed.
"The Lord God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it." - Genesis 2:15
God created us to enjoy the Earth in a special way. The Earth is our birthright, so we should tend it as best we can.
"Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?" - Matthew 6:26
God values us more than the animals, who are fed by God's plants and other animals.
As humans, we are created in His image and are therefore greatly valued by God.
The Lord has provided fertile soil, knowledge to plant and the ability to tend gardens. As beloved children, God created the means for us to thrive.
"I brought you to a country of plenty, to enjoy its produce and good things; but when you entered you defiled my country and made my heritage loathsome." - Jeremiah 2:7
God granted us dominion over the Earth, which offers everything we could ever need to survive, but God warned against defiling the land.
The Earth is our heritage. Respect it, and respect the Lord.
Evidence of God's existence can be seen in every aspect of nature.
"ever since the creation of the world, the invisible existence of God and his everlasting power have been clearly seen by the mind's understanding of created things..." - Romans 1:20
There is no excuse for us to mistreat the land, sky or sea.
God's hand is visible in every aspect of nature. For all who see, they know to care for the Earth and encourage others to do the same.
God is in everything.
"This is the Lord's doing, and we marvel at it." - Psalm 118:23
In the end, the Earth was created by God and it is a powerful thing.
Natural disasters can wipe out entire civilizations, have the power to create the perfect homes and can go through amazing changes.
The world is a thing to be admired and respected, so remind your friends and family to respect the Earth. Don't litter, reuse and recycle, try to lower your carbon footprint, support organizations and bills pushing for better environment controls and remember: The Earth is literally a gift from God. Treasure it.
