We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Will this be able to help poor countries find drinkable water?

Bill Gates is featured in a video drinking a glass of water, but this was no "ordinary" glass of water - the water was made from poop. Gates was testing the produce of a machine developed to sanitize water, the OmniProcessor, a developmental project of the Janicki Bioenergy. The project aims to help with sanitation in poor countries, according to Gates.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Davey Alba, for Wire.com, wrote he tried the water himself and the result was drinkable, and even indistinguishable from tap or bottled water. It just took five minutes for the waste to be turned into potable drinking water.

According to Alba, the two-year developmental project by the small family-run company was funded by The Gates Foundation as part of its Reinvent the Toilet Challenge.

The OmniProcessor is described as about the size of two school buses side by side, which was first installed in an open space behind Janicki buildings in Washington. Gates stated that so far, the machine is working "as predicted," but there are things they have to reconsider concerning the target users of the contraption.

"The real world introduces lots of variables. For example, you have to find the right personnel to run the machine. You have to work with local and national governments and gauge the public's reaction," wrote Gates in a statement.

With the positive results of the current design, the team continues to look for a more viable device, while they keep in mind the machine will be introduced to help poor countries by making water sanitation more affordable, explained Gates.

About 700,000 children reportedly die each year because of poor sanitation, which the foundation aims to end. The Gates Foundation will continue sanitation research whether this machine will succeeds or not.
