'Chickensaurus' is halfway here: Paleontologists creating dino-hybrids out of birds

Paleontologists have begun altering the DNA of chickens.

It is clear the world will never see a true dinosaur again, however, paleontologists have began re-engineering chickens to create a fictitious model of ancient creatures, although they admit the hybrid will not produce an exact copy. With a series of genetic fusing, in a matter of years, they are positive humans will witness, in real time, the little dinosaurs.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Box office hit Jurassic World's consultant paleontologist Dr. Jack Horner has been developing dinosaur DNA traits by fusing with the chickens', trying to produce what he calls the "Chickensaurus."

He admitted he tried recreating a dinosaur itself but his projects always fail; extracting the creature's DNA itself is difficult because of the huge molecules that are not very stable. However, he will not be deterred as the paleontologist decided to focus on re-engineering the bird's DNA and explained that they have been successful in making the chickens grow teeth and snouts.

"To make a bird into a dinosaur, what we're doing is looking for ancestral genes that the birds might be carrying that are just turned off," Dr. Horner explained through a video in "Talks at Google."

They decided to use the birds in particular because they have the DNA traits closest to that of the dinosaurs. "We're looking for historical pathways to reinstate these pathways," explained the paleontologist.

Scientists have still have to figure out how to make the chickens grow hands and the tail. Dr. Horner said that the hands are easier to develop in the birds because they just have to un-fuse the genetic makeup of the wings.

Growing the tails is now the most challenging part of the project, but Dr. Horner stated they are now working on putting an alligator-like tail and are making good progress.
