Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

NASA predicts drought larger than any in 1,000 years

A new study from NASA warns that the United States is going to endure a drought. The likes of which may not have been seen in 1,000 years; the kind of drought that contributed heavily to the fall of per-colonial Native American civilizations and may cause immense problems for the American people.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - This drought would hit most of the western half of the U.S., including the Central Plains region and the Southwest.

This Lent season, are you "Doing Good"?

Currently these regions are already suffering under a drought that is several years old, but NASA warns that these little cycles won't compare to the "megadrought" that will likely hit before the end of the century.

This super drought cycle would leave thousands of square miles of land parched, baked dry; the Great lake reservoirs may dwindle away to nothing during this time.

"Our projections for what we are seeing is that, with climate change, many of these types of droughts will likely last for 20, 30, ever 40 years," said Ben Cook, a climate scientist with NASA.

This drought would be much worse than the Dust Bowl droughts in the 1930s, which lasted about a decade.

Based on greenhouse gas emission predictions, the current course is set for at least an 80% chance of a multidecade-long drought.

February is a month for love and devotion.

The study examined wet and dry periods in history going back about 1,000 years. Then this data was compared to soil moisture from 17 different NASA climate models, and super computers calculated the models out, which ended up predicting this cataclysmic drought.

The current drought, while bad, would be nothing compared to this future megadrought. Already many people have moved into the Southwestern U.S. and these drought-stricken areas already function on severely strained reservoirs.
