LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Propolis, a resin-like material taken from honeybee hives, has helped speed up the growth of hair in mice, and could potentially also help humans who suffer from hair loss.

Help provide kids with the quality learning tools they need.

Propolis is a material that is used by honeybees to seal small holes and crevices in their hives.

Recent research has hinted that propolis could promote and speed the growth of cells that contribute to hair growth, but Japanese researchers wondered if it could possibly make cells grow new hair.

Two groups of mice had their hair removed for the study, one by waxing and the other by shaving. Regardless of what manner the hair was removed, those mice who were treated with propolis grew their fur back significantly faster than the mice that were not treated.

The actual number of cells that produce hair were increased after the treatment.

Hair loss is often caused by inflammation, and propolis contains anti-inflammatory elements, which the researchers believe could reverse the balding process. Further testing will be necessary to confirm this, but it already looks promising for those suffering from hair loss.
