As people of faith, we fully expect our Father to provide us with practical insights into our life experience. These two verses do not disappoint:

From Proverbs 22: verses 6, and 7

Train a boy in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.
7
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

The training of our youth requires character training, and practical lifestyle training. It is most fitting that these two verses should rest in such close proximity to each other. We seldom think about the relationship in our modern society of the borrower and the lender. This old testement wisdom strips away the "civilized" contract language to reveal the true relationship that exists in the borrowing relationship. What if we taught our children that entering into a contract to borrow funds, particularly for an asset that declines in value assures you of a type of "slave" relationship. Until the debt is paid, your life is only partially your own. Do you think it might temper future decisions?
