Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. The parable of sleeping men is in Matthew 13:24-30, 39.
24 He proposed another parable to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25 But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds amid the wheat, and then went away.
26 And when the plants had grown, and had produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.
27 So the servants of the Father of the family, approaching, said to him: 'Lord, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how is it that it has weeds?'
28 And he said to them, 'A man who is an enemy has done this.' So the servants said to him, 'Is it your will that we should go and gather them up?'
29 And he said: 'No, lest perhaps in gathering the weeds, you might also root out the wheat together with it.
30 Permit both to grow until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest, I will say to the reapers: Gather first the weeds, and bind them into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather into my storehouse.' "
39 So the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And truly, the harvest is the consummation of the age; while the reapers are the Angels.
How does this apply in the world, not just in the religious world, but the political world around us? Of course, there is always a spiritual meaning, but there are other meanings as well speaking directly to the reader.
Luke 10:25 And behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and saying, "Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?"
10:26 But he said to him: "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"
Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is living and effectual, and more piercing than any two edged sword; and reaching unto the division of the soul and the spirit, of the joints also and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
In other words, the Word of God, is the living Word of the living God, and speaks on a relevant basis to those who read it.
How does this relate to "how men slept?" The industrial revolution came and men turned from the revolution for religious freedom that occurred with the Revolutionary War, which was ultimately a war of for men to live free lives under a Constitution, under a Bill of Rights, ultimately under the Lord Jesus Christ and not under a monarch or dictator of personal whims. The majority of men who participated were Christians and those who came to America came for freedom of religion.
While Christians were out in the forefront of government at the time of the Revolutionary War, the church as a whole has shrunk back into the four walls of the church. There are individual exceptions, as in anything, but is the Christian church as a whole in the forefront of the social, cultural revolution?
Look at your daily headlines and see who is mentioned. Men have slept as to the need for godly, righteous men to stand for the principles taught in the Bible to be part of society. Lies, corruption, murder, and theft have become a way of political life and existence for even governments in the West. While they have slept, the enemy of anti-Christ religion has come in, literally over borders in many nations of the world. Men have slept and allowed this through their leaders. It is time to awaken.
How? The parable from Jesus gives us a clue. The angels are involved in separating the wicked from the just. How are the angelic forces of God invoked? Through prayer. The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel is one prayer.
All prayer to God is heard. The prayers of the saints bring answers from God.
As mankind awakens to resist tyrannical forces that have grown while men slept, let us pray for help that angels will separate the wicked from among just. These prayers are needed now, for all mankind, and for all nations.
