Abortion: A Litmus Test for Believers
FREE Catholic Classes
August 3rd, 2015, was a tragic day in the life of Americans on both sides of the abortion debate, as the Senate voted 53-46 to continue funding Planned Parenthood. Both the abortion industry and US politicians have recently been exposed in America as never before, opening a door that can never be closed. In fact, to my dismay, both of my own US/Maryland Senators, Senator Ben Cardin and Senator Barbara Mikulski reportedly voted NOT to Defund Planned Parenthood, which kills 333,000 unborn babies per year, and receives 500 million in US tax dollars!

LOS ANGELES, CA - Despite the cries of the American people, this close, complex, symbiotic partnership prevails between the US Senate and Planned Parenthood. In the wake of videos that were released over the past week exposing Planned Parenthood heinous negotiations in the sale of fetal tissue and body parts, the world has been able to witness, this cold, heartless, shrewd, derelict big business first hand, and has watched as our politicians stand behind them.
Though abortion is heavily debated and highly controversial with humanists, there really is no gray area in this life and death issue for believing Judeo-Christian people of faith, for God's mandates for His faithful are very clear. For adherents of the Judeo-Christian 10 Commandments handed down by God through Moses, abortion is both morally wrong and reprehensible. It is the murder of innocent babies in the womb, the derailment, 'crushing,' harvesting, and procurement of human life, that is at the center of this pressing issue.
A line was drawn in the sand over the issue of abortion, as our US Senate chose to stand with Planned Parenthood, continuing to fund them with taxpayer's hard-earned money. History will forever record the vote of those politicians who walked away from their faith to side with the illicit, profitable annihilation of precious innocent babies.
Some say they do not believe what the videos reveal. But I, for one, do believe them, as I have witnessed abortion first hand. While in nursing school, I was required to observe a late-term partial birth abortion. That day, they were harvesting brain stem cells with a large bore needle and syringe from the baby's head. Born alive, the gruesome, haunting image of the doctor tossing the crying baby into a red trash can labeled "Biohazardous Waste" still prevails in my mind. They had to physically restrain me, as I tried to help save the baby's life that day. In fact, that day almost prevented me from graduating from Nursing School.
So, how culpable are those who stand with the abortion industry? Well, consider this:
Dictionary.com states that 'an abortionist is one who a person who performs or induces abortions, especially illegally.' Then it goes on to clarify that an abortionist is also "a person who favors or advocates abortion as a right or choice that all women should have." According to this definition, one who sides with, or supports abortion, is as culpable as one who performs it.
The moral and legal implications here are many, but the essence is this: Those who promote abortion also have blood on their hands. Just because you do not actually perform the procedure does not mean you are free from culpability. This is very much like the death penalty. Are you culpable if you support it, or only if you are the one to inject the person with the lethal dose? Somehow I doubt that.
However, it is not for me to judge anyone, as that job belongs to God alone. However, I pray often for those citizens and politicians who either support abortion or are on the fence. By definition, responsibility for the promotion of this barbaric practice rests in their hands.
In the simplest terms, the truth is, we can either decide to stand with our personal and political convictions, our political party or stand with God where abortion is concerned. We cannot have it both ways. That is why abortion is considered by many to be a 'litmus test' for believers. Actually, I have noticed that many of the Christians I know that are lukewarm on abortion do not even watch the news!
We must also expose and ban the biotech medical treatments that are the end use of the harvested fetuses that spin the abortion industry. For what do we gain if we are staunchly Pro-life, accept contraband medical treatments culled from the products of abortion, and invest in biotech mutual funds, hedge funds, and stocks that are from ill-gotten gains?
With Jesus at their side in this battle for the preservation of human life, the Pro-Life community has made great strides in recent years as they have focused on arresting abortionists like Kermit Gosnell and others for killing babies through late-term abortions, and also some women through botched abortions. Yes, there has been some progress, but there is much more to be done.
