We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Expressing ourselves in the World; a Choice in the Meaning of Life
FREE Catholic Classes
When people express themselves with the talents they have it can be the most beautiful thing. If they use their talents to express hatred, selfishness, and/or sin; it is a gruesome picture. How do you express yourself?

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - We all express ourselves differently, and I might add at different times throughout our lives. We all go through phases in our lives where it seems we are still trying to "find" ourselves. We may express things a little differently while enduring crisis, sorrow, and joy. We can truly say our ability to express is directly tied to the environment in which we were raised as well as the ones we choose to engage in as we age and mature. I can go even further and say those talents and traits we inherited through genetic disposition as well as those that were learned and honed in life that are related to our personalities, should also be factored in to this equation.
We express ourselves through the clothes we wear, the manner in which we speak, our hair style (for those of us that have hair), how or what we write about, the music we listen to, even what we put into our heads in what we read or look upon. In each of those choices of expression we make huge statements about ourselves, especially when we bring all of those expressions in a collective to view all at once.
I believe the most important expressions we make, by far, are those that we make in and about God, our souls, and our faith in God. These are the things in which encompass the eternal. We should make wise and prudent consideration when deciding these expressions in our lives.
While, as with any expression, we make statements about ourselves while projecting them; we also can impact others in their spiritual journeys either positively, or in the negative. Use great care. It would be most difficult to express what God means in our life or the meaning of life in God; if we do not know him. This is why we must learn through the gospels, the teachings of the Apostles, and the guidance of the church in a prayerful manner. Even as we learn of God we change the way we express ourselves. I for one have changed how I projected God in my life many times as I matured in my faith and increased my knowledge. I think we find more meaning in our faith as we keep going forward in it.
Some choose to express their faith in almost an antagonistic manner, where they have made the decision that they have the answer to the question of life beyond what the Magisterium of the Church has. So they protest the Church and make it their duty to find any conceivable and possible error that in their mind, the church has grievously injected.
I'm the first to say the Church, made of up men, has made some errors - a few really big errors; but I don't walk around with a chip on my shoulder making it my function in life to tear down the church, while still professing my catholic faith. In these matters I will express myself in the most prayerful, truthful, but still supportive way to make Our Church better. I choose to build up - not tear down. The best I can do is to express my love for God and my fellow man, my devotion to Jesus Christ, my respect of the Holy Mother Church in how I live my life each and every day. I choose to express myself through my purposeful example - which is my true self.
