Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Women receiving the attention they deserve

History has always told us about heroes and great warriors, but seldom do we hear stories of heroines and great female warriors. With many edited out of textbooks and discussions, a new BBC series will be dedicated to the women who changed the course of history.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Historian Amanda Foreman will present the names and legacies of great women through the upcoming Ascent of Women series. Despite the lack of equal educational and political opportunities their male counterparts enjoyed, these women did not chose to accepted the roles they were expected to play.

Princesses, queens, priestesses and ordinary women of their times fought against oppression through the use of literature, warfare, politics and more.

Among the featured women is Sumerian princess Enheduanna, who left the world with writings that continue to be widely circulated, hundreds of years after her death. She also served as a high priestess during the reign of her father and brother and is known to her contemporaries as a sharp political operator, The Daily Mail reported.

Hatshepsut, one of the most successful female pharaohs, built the Precinct of Mut at Karnak and led the reestablishment of trade networks disrupted by the Hyksos occupation and even the military campaigns against the now Sudan and Israel.

Like many women, Hatshepsut's accomplishments were erased from records by men. Thutmose III and his heir Amenhotep II worked to delete all records of her achievements and Amenhotep II claimed several of them as his own doings.

Philippa of Hainault became the Queen of England at the age of 13 and served as an effective regent during the reign of her husband with his ongoing wars with France. She is best-known for interceding on his actions with captives, including saving the Burghers of Calais.

The amazing women mentioned here are only a fraction of the women Ascent of Women plans to feature. Several other women will be featured on the show.
