Uploaded by on Feb 26, 2013
The Catholic Diocese of Saginaw is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its establishment as a diocese by Pope Pius XI on February 26, 1938. An anniversary Mass was celebrated by the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, on Tuesday, February 26 at 11:00a.m. at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw. It was on this day 75 years ago that the Diocese of Saginaw came into existence. Unlike present day, however, it took more than a week for the news to make its way stateside. On March 4, 1938, the announcement of the new diocese was made in Washington, DC by the apostolic delegate to the United States, and news that Saginaw would be headquarters of a new bishop was reported in The Saginaw News.
