Today is the feast of St. Bernadine of Siena, a Franciscan preacher who worked for the reform of the Franciscan Order when it was becoming lax and then did the same for Christianity throughout Italy. He also spread devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus in the abbreviation IHS, Iesus Hominum Salvator ("Jesus, Savior of men" in Latin) and to the Virgin Mary. Ave Maria!
