To build peace, it is necessary to restore hope to the poor, both from an economic and a moral point of view. Benedict XVI underlined this in his address to the Diplomatic Corps, at the customary reception held for them at the beginning of the year. The Pope mentioned the problem areas of the world and the great economic and social issues that are afflicting countries and continents today. He stressed that it is necessary to combat hunger and create thriving economies through an ethic based on the innate dignity of the human person.
