Tuscany Press Announces 2014 Short Story Winners

WELLESLEY, MA (October 7, 2014) - The winners of 2014's Tuscany Prize for Catholic Fiction in the category of short story have been announced. With a 40% increase in submissions, this year's Tuscany Prize winners number eleven, which represents an increase over the number of stories that was published last year. The age and background of the Catholic authors are as diverse as the stories themselves.

"We are amazed with the depth and breadth of these wonderful short stories," said Peter Mongeau, founder of Tuscany Press, which offers the Tuscany Prize. "It's inspiring to think that we may very well be on the cusp of a great Catholic literary revival."

The authors will receive cash prizes totaling over $3,500 with the top story winning $1,000, double the amount of last year's prize. The acclaim and winnings accompany a publishing contract courtesy of Tuscany Press, the award-winning independent publishing house based out of Wellesley, Massachusetts. For many of these authors--two of whom include diocesan priests writing under pen names from the United States--the publishing contract represents a significant accomplishment for any aspiring writer.

"It's a testament to the fact that the 'Catholic Imagination' established by writers like Graham Greene and Flannery O'Connor is alive and well in the new millennium," said Mr. Mongeau. Founded in 2012, Tuscany Press has emerged as a leading independent publisher in fiction and home of the Tuscany Prize, which offers authors a chance to compete for cash prizes totaling over $10,000. The Tuscany Prize is awarded each year for novels, young adult novels, short stories and foreign and English language films.

The Shepherdess by Mike Bonifas (pen name) - 2nd Place
The Treasure Hunter by Theresa English - 3rd Place
A Thousand Words by Christine Venzon - 4th Place
Someone Who Loves Her by Sally Thomas - 5th Place
