November 30th, 2012 Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) A federal judge has sentenced a former Chicago police officer to three-and-a-half years in prison for accepting several hundred dollars in bribes. CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - It may not seem like high-profile corruption, but it is still corruption. Ten Chicago police officers were busted in an undercover FBI investigation aimed at weeding out crooked cops.In this case, Juan Prado, a 12-year veteran of the police force, along with nine other arrested officers, were busted for accepting money from tow truck operators in return for their often higher-priced business. In at least one case, an accident was staged and a police report was falsified to bill a better insurance policy for more money. In Prado's case, he was charged with accepting hundreds of dollars for steering business to an undercover FBI agent posing as a tow truck driver. Charges are pending against the other officers. © 2012, Distributed by NEWS CONSORTIUM. Article brought to you by: Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) |
