Who are the Intolerant? Ken Blackwell Writes an Open Letter to General Powell

This is what happens when a major party rejects God.

After slavery, after Jim Crow, after the KKK, it is fair to say that among the worst things visited upon black Americans have been the targeting of our families by abortionists and the effort to end marriage.President Obama has refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and pledges to repeal it. He has openly joined the Marriage Enders. They're not changing marriage. They are ending it.

Colin Powell and President Obama

Colin Powell and President Obama

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) -

Dear General Powell,

I was disappointed with the clear implication in your Meet The Press interveiw that those of us, in the GOP who defend life, protect traditional marriage and advance religious liberty are intolerent.

It was obvious to anyone who watched the Democratic National Convention in  Charlotte, North Carolina, that NO! had it. There was no way the convention chairman could have heard a two-thirds vote for the YES! position. Three  times the chairman asked them to vote. Three times they denied God. Denied Him Thrice!

What has happened to the Democratic Party that,in the 1960's, provided such leadership for  the cause of Civil Rights? It was Democrats like John F. Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey who supprted the fight for civil rights among the white majority in the 1960s. Kennedy, the first Catholic president, was in good company in his church.

Roman Catholic Bishops were among the first to strike out against segregation in the 1950s and 1960s. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was surely a Baptist preacher, but he could rely on thousands of Catholic  priests and nuns to join his great March on Washington in 1963. And when he  wrote his famous Letter from the Birmingham Jail, he cited St. Thomas  Aquinas to make his case that an unjust law was no law at all.

For the Democratic Party of Kennedy and King to vote three times to reject God was a shock to millions of black Americans. And it must have been especially shocking to black clergymen who have been leaders in the struggle  for equal rights and equal opportunity for four decades and more. It is bad  enough these pastors and their congregations have been given short shrift by  the new elites in the Democratic Party, but we now see that God was not put  in the back of the bus. God was not allowed on the bus at all.

Only by an obvious power play did the convention chairman overrule the obvious sentiment on the floor. Anyone with ears to hear knew that the spirit of those delegates was against acknowledging God in the Democratic  Platform. How far we have fallen from that great Inauguration Day in 1961  when John F. Kennedy said: "The rights of man come not from the generosity  of the state, but from the hand of God." No one in America yelled NO! on that crisp, clear day in Washington.

What does it mean for a party to reject God? First of all, it means they must reject life itself. We know that God is the author of life. Speaker after speaker demanded abortion, and more of it. No longer would Democrats have any hesitation about abortion. No longer  would they say, as Bill Clinton said, it should be safe, legal, and rare.

The Democratic Platform dropped those last two words, and rare. Even the usually liberal Cokie Roberts--an NPR reporter--thought the Charlotte  convention lineup of pro-abortion speakers was "over the top."  She pointed out that 30% of Democrats are pro-life. And who would those pro-life Democrats be? Disproportionately, they are black and Hispanic voters. And Catholic and Evangelical voters.

Why should black voters be against abortion? Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, made clear her own plans when she addressed the Ku Klux  Klan of New Jersey in the 1920s. She wanted to have more children from the fit, fewer from the fit. When you read about her "Negro Ministers Project,"  you learn that Planned Parenthood has been targeting minorities for a long time. Today, in New York City, 61% of unborn children of black mothers are killed before birth. Planned Parenthood is there, pushing abortion all the way.

President Obama's health care takeover and his HHS Mandate against Catholic and other religious institutions will only increase the daily death toll.  Religious freedom is trampled when you force Christians to participate in  ending the lifes of innocents. Even Herod didn't do that!

In 1866, historian Allen Guelzo reports, Tennessee recorded thousands more marriages than in the previous four years. That's because newly freed black  couples were walking to Tennessee to have their marriages recognized by law.

How tragic, then, that the Charlotte convention came out against marriage, too. They say they only want to add to the number of happily married couples  by allowing men to marry men and women to marry women. But we know that wherever these counterfeit marriages have ...

Thank you, Mr. Blackwell, for this excellant "open letter" to a ONCE admired Republican.
Mr. Powell has truly "sold his soul to the devil" so he could be a buddy to Obama.
The devil is very busy in Washington.

This is what the President and the Democratic party agenda has proposed all along. Catholic on line is the only place that truly says it as it is and that is why I know that God has blessed Cna and Catholic on line. The alternative is the left wing Huffington Post that is completely opposed To catholic on line and catholic news association. It is amazing to see how far apart they are on Defense of Marriage, abortion, gay rights, all political perspectives. President Obama is a Huffington Post hero. The comments about Catholics in the Huffington Post says it all as far as our country is concerned. If you believe the Post Ifeel sorry, they are all wrong. Thank God for Catholic on line they are telling the truth in all matters. This administration is all too predictable as are the compulsive lies that come from the liberal left wing agendas, all of which the current president vows to protect. Marriage and the stability of it is to support fundamental health laws as well. I do not get why that is never an issue with those in power who must govern to at least protect the general health of the general populace to minimize social deseases and birth abnormalities. The president and the country are immature in that our society is purely adolescent in its perspectives on most every issue these days. It is time for our nation to grow up or it can not survive its own confirmed sense of a kind of self approved of proud ignorance.

In exchanges with homosexual activists & supporters on their effort to re-define marriage, I have pointed out that this effort has already led to discrimination against people of faith and explicitly deprived them of their Constitutional rights to free speech and the free practice of religion.

Once you get them past all the denials, they invariably admit that they don't care. It has not occured to these folks that if you allow SOME people to be deprived of their rights, there is no longer anything protecting YOU from being deprived of those rights.

I am very disappointed with Colin Powell, I used to have a lot of respect for him but here lately it seems he has lost his way. Is he trying to win brownie points with this administration. I don't know of anyone against civil rights more than this administration

I enjoyed your St. Thomas Aquinas quote. Also, St. Augustine wrote something similar. Tony de Mello (SJ) wrote "the law is an ass". Another Jesuit said the Nazis did win the war! Why? Look at their policies, many of them are now law! Obama cares about blacks? Obama cares about his political ideologies. I have many black friends, many, and I am white. And Obama is more white than I am! According to one great Jesuit, Hitler and Henry the SAVAGE the VIIITH were 2 of the worst men to have lived in the past centuries. I agree. The west is lost. The west is educated? WRONG. The west is instructed. In most countries, issues like gay marriages are not even taken seriously. Be careful of being too open minded, for one's brains and reason tend to fall right out of one's head if the mind is as open as a parachute. Faith and reason, both, in unified harmony. The extreme in one results in superstition and fanaticism. The extreme of the other results in cold hearted machine-like calculating and fanaticism as well. The true criminals? Those governing and passing laws, often. Now, with great joy I remind myself that no human escapes death; including world leaders, bankers, judges, lawyers, bureaucrats, administrators, public relations firms, advertising and marketing firms, and all those who shine light on truth when perceived convenient and advantageous while seeking truth not for itself but rather to manipulate it to perceived advantage whether real or imagined.

Look at the trees. Look at the fruit. And what are 'American positive laws' doing at present?

One of the best US supreme court justices at present is likely one of the most hated. Why? NORMAL. The truth is often met with violent opposition. If you are too popular, then worry. Why? It is the nature of truth that it often separates itself from the crowd. The majority is usually what? WRONG. And it has been this way for thousands of years. John the Baptist? Beheaded. Jesus? Crucified. The list is long indeed.

Politicians are wimps these days. A pile of poll gazing public relations talk show celebrity circuit goofballs! I openly, publically, in writing, despise the cowards! Some may be brave, but very few are courageous. There is a huge gap present between bravery and true courage.

Since the honey doesn't always work, then let us apply barrels of vinegar when necessary! Perhaps in the days of St. Francis de Sales, people were more open to listening in doses of teaspoon-sized honey supplies. These days, only honey seems to result in the honey-giver drowning in manure from the flies with small hearts and brains!

Colin Powell is no more of a Republican than are other liberals masquerading as conservatives such as Hagel of Nebraska, Hatch of Utah, McCain of Arizona, or Graham of South Carolina. These guys are all "trojan horses" and stalking horses (if I may mix my metaphors) for the Dems. They are in the GOP simply because when they began their public careers they all cynically concluded there was more room at the top for them in the Republican Party.
