Obamacare is a success! But not the kind you'll want to celebrate

Nearly all who have enrolled are those getting Medicaid.

If the intent of Obamacare is to fail, then Obamacare is a roaring success. As the deadline to enroll in a qualifying plan approaches, and the administration is proudly trumpets the enrollment of 1.6 million Americans in Obamacare, there's one number they're not talking about.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Obamacare is a fiscal disaster beyond the imagination of even the President himself. Or so we hope, because the alternative is to think that it was intended to fail. Why the harsh criticism?

The Obama administration is hailing Obamacare as a success now that 1.6 million Americans are enrolled in the program. What they're not telling you however, will floor you.

Of that 1.6 million, 1.46 million are enrolled in Medicaid. That means the only people who are signing up for Obamacare are the poor who get their healthcare expenses covered by the government.

Now, there's no reason to be upset about the poor getting healthcare. That's a good thing. The problem is that their healthcare was supposed to be subsidized by the middle class and the wealthy, who would also sign up for qualifying plans, but would hardly use their insurance. This isn't happening. The plan is inherently flawed.

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid already account for 48 percent of federal spending. With millions of poor signing up for their free healthcare, again, not a bad thing in itself, somebody has got to pay. That's going to be you and your children, in the form of higher taxes and deficit spending. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

To make matters worse, the likelihood that the government can reform Obamacare is low.

Federal expenditures for Medicaid are expected to double over the next 10 years. In three years, once states are expected to start taking responsibility for their own citizens' Medicaid, state spending will skyrocket. So we're looking at a future where both state and federal budgets are engulfed by Medicaid expenditures.

Meanwhile, middle-class Americans are suffering the brunt of Obamacare, unable to afford new plans which are in many cases higher-priced than what they used before. Young, healthy people are ignoring the requirements altogether. Next October, a new wave of cancellations will occur as employers cancel out on most of their employees, leaving them to go to the public exchanges too. Businesses have found it's cheaper to just pay the penalties than to pay rising healthcare costs.

There is no system yet which appears capable of lowering insurance rates because competition is so weak. Government interference has much to do with this.

The next step, then, is quite possibly a single-payer system where every American is a Medicaid subscriber. Then, the government will have to set price controls on everything, leading to shortages. Millions of chronically ill Americans will suffer. Some will die.

If Obama's plan is to fail so he can see the establishment of a socialist healthcare policy, then he is correct, Obamacare is a rousing success. For the rest of us, you can kiss your money, and your healthcare goodbye. See you when you qualify for Medicaid.

Don't get sick.
