LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to the indictment against him, 30-year-old Mufid Elfgeeh faces three counts of trying "to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization," one count of attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States, two counts of having an unregistered firearm silencer and one for possessing guns or silencers "in furtherance of a crime of violence."

Stop the ongoing genocide of Christians in Iraq!

Elfgeeh was arrested at the end of May of this year, but did not have charges outlined against him until September 16.

Mark Hosken, the public defender representing Elfgeeh, said that he will enter a plea of not guilty when his client appears in court on September 18.

Federal investigators began looking into Elfgeeh in early 2013, and numerous Twitter posts, show that Elfgeeh has not stood with his adopted country in the fight.

"Al Qaeda said it loud and clear: we are fighting the American invasion and their hegemony over the earth and the people," he said in one tweet.

Another tweet had Elfgeeh state that the Islamic State "will one day rule the world with the will of Allah."

Elfgeeh has urged people to donate a third of their salary, or at least "#Five_thousand_dollars_from_every_household" to supporting the Islamic State.

Court documents state that Elfgeeh wanted to sell his store, or at least send "those who are fed up (and want) to go to war and be jihadists," to the Islamic State.

Two FBI informants were among those Elfgeeh tried to recruit into joining the Islamic State. He paid one of the informants' passport fees, coordinated travel arrangements and set them up with contracts to join the group. He also sent $600 to a Yemeni man that he believed wanted to join the group.

Elfgeeh also wanted to cause violence in the U.S., taking with the informants about getting his hands on guns and ammunition to kill veterans.

"We want ... to start shooting those who were in the Army who went to Iraq," he said back in April.

Authorities arrested Elfgeeh after he received two handguns, silencers and ammunition from one of the informants.

Elfgeeh is currently in federal custody, and could face upwards of 65 years in prison from the combined firearms possession, attempted murder and support to terrorist group charges.

"We will remain aggressive in identifying and disrupting those who seek to provide support to ISIL and other terrorist groups that are bent on inflicting harm upon Americans," said Attorney General Eric Holder. "We are focused on breaking up these activities on the front end, before supporters of ISIL can make good on plans to travel to the region or recruit sympathizers to this cause."
