DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - The Commissioners issued a statement on Wednesday promising to prosecute anyone who disrupted their meetings. Commissioners say the demonstrators created a "bullying atmosphere" and are intimidating witnesses.
They are also asking for more security in advance of further meetings.
Fracking is the practice of blasting sand, water, and chemicals deep into the ground to produce cracks in the rock. Those cracks release natural gas and oil.
Opponents of the practice say that it contaminates groundwater and possibly causes earthquakes.
Defenders of the practice say the claims are absurd because fracking occurs well beneath the water table.
