DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - The Colorado Springs ban applies to twelve blocks of its downtown area and prohibits panhandling of any kind.
The ACLU came to Denver to file its legal challenge, joined by several homeless, street musicians, and advocacy groups who all say they rely on donations collected in the busy area to survive. They also claim the ban stifles free speech.
The city voted to pass the ban in the hopes of improving the safety and appearance of the downtown area and to prevent people from being approached and solicited for money.
