LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi, after attending morning mass, the pope has canceled the remainder of his appointments for the day.

Lombardi described the Holy Father's ailments as a "slight fever," and insisted it is nothing serious and there is nothing to worry about, as the pope typically "recovers quickly" when ill.

According to Catholic News Agency, this is not the first incident where the pope was forced to cancel a day's work due to an illness, but it does not happen often.

However, perhaps the pope's fever should not come as a surprise, as he has been very busy in recent days. Since he has returned from his five-day stay in Mexico, he immediately hopped back into his Vatican routine with general audiences, Mass and meetings.

Just last year, rumors rapidly spread that the pope may have a brain tumor. The Vatican was quick to dispose of the rumors, but the pope continues to ask for prayers for his well-being and has been quoted as saying he believes he will only have two to three years as the Holy Father.

Although Pope Francis is expected to return to his normal schedule tomorrow, it is important that we continue to pray for him.
