Trump has vowed to punish China for currency manipulation and intellectual property theft.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Donald Trump is becoming the nominee apparent for the GOP and as such his remarks are drawing attention from the rest of the world. China, in particular, is watching with interest as Trump vows to impose a tariff on Chinese imports and to oppose their militaristic expansion into the South China Sea.

Last month, Trump proposed imposing a 45 percent tariff on Chinese imports, accusing China of currency manipulation. "They're devaluing their currency, and they're killing our companies," Trump told a crowd of supporters. "We are letting them get away with it, and we can't let them get away with it."

In addition to punishing China for currency manipulation, Trump opposes Chinese militaristic expansion into the South China Sea. He also plans to address Chinese theft of intellectual property and to bring jobs back to the U.S. from China.

Trump proposes to enhance the American military presence in Asia to discourage the Chinese from further, potentially destabilizing exploits.

In China, state media has reduced reporting on the U.S. election and officials seem worried that Trump could win election. Officials statements have emphasized peace and the working relationship between China and the U.S.

"But I want to stress that China and the U.S., as world's largest developing and developed countries, shoulder major responsibilities in safeguarding world peace, stability and security and driving world development," Chinese Foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters during a recent conference. "We stand ready to preserve China-U.S. relations together with the U.S. side."

China is a major global exporter and that nation is making a play for its currency to be used as the world's reserve currency, displacing the dollar. While relations between the U.S. and China are warm and the two states are robust trading partners, there is natural adversity between the two nations. Trump proposes to be a tough negotiator, which has China and many other world powers worried.
