Twenty homosexual, lesbian couples had taken advantage of the purported right to marry

Australian same-sex married couples, about 20 homosexual and lesbian unions, saw their status overturned and the truth about the nature of marriage reaffirmed. The High Court overturned new same-sex marriage laws this week, invalidating the previous wedding ceremonies performed since this past weekend and securing the foundation of the social order. .

New Zealand in April became the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to legalize what is called same-sex marriage.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "This is devastating for those couples who married this week and for their families," sadn Australian Marriage Equality National Director Rodney Croome  in a prepared statement.Twenty homosexual or lesbian couples had taken the opportunity since December 7, when Australia's first same-sex marriage laws came into force in the Australian Capital Territory,to utilize the opportunity. Those couples were perturbed at the turn of events. "I don't want to be unmarried this afternoon," said Ivan Hinton, who married his male homosexual partner Chris Teoh in the national capital Canberra, told Australian media outside the High Court.

The country's national government challenged the law in the High Court, saying that it conflicted with federal law. Of course, the federal law affirmed the Natural Law. The court upheld the challenge and unanimously decided that the ACT law was invalid.Laws to legalize same-sex marriage failed to pass in the national parliament in September 2012. The court now says that the issue of same-sex marriage is now a matter for the national parliament.

"This is just a temporary defeat," Croome claimed. "What is far more important is that the ACT's law facilitated the first same-sex marriage on Australian soil and showed the nation the love and commitment of same-sex couples," he said. The ACT legislation had called the relationships between gay couples a marriage inside the ACT, which includes the Australian capital, Canberra - regardless of which state they live in.

Australian Federal law, however, specified that marriage is between a man and a woman. Of course, that law reflects the Natural Moral Law.Civil unions are allowed in some states in Australia. That is not enough for homosexual equivalency activists bent on reordering society.

Nations where same-sex marriages are now recognized as equivalent to real marriages, between one man and one woman, include Canada, Spain, Sweden and New Zealand, which in April became the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to legalize same-sex marriage.Marriage 'is what it is', to use a popular expression. The effort to redefine the word and then use the mechanisms of the State to entirely restructure this institution inscribed in the Natural Law - and replace it - is what is at stake here.

Those who advocate giving moral and legal equivalency to homosexual and lesbian relationships, and calling their partnerships a marriage, are the people who really oppose marriage. Their intention is to entirely reorder civil society. They use the phrase 'marriage equality' in an Orwellian act of verbal engineering. They want to use the police power of the State against those who defend true marriage. They have been dealt a setback in Australia.

They seek to make what can never be a marriage - a homosexual or lesbian partnership - to be a marriage, by pronouncement of a Court or a legislature. Such partnerships can never achieve the ends of marriage. They accuse those who defend authentic marriage of somehow being against marriage because we will not redefine the word to include homosexual or lesbian partnerships. This is a propaganda ploy and a tactic aimed at cultural revolution. .

For any nation to limit marriage to heterosexual couples is not discriminatory. Homosexual couples cannot bring into existence what marriage intends by its very definition. To confer by governmental fiat the benefits that have been conferred in the past only to stable married couples and families to homosexual and lesbian paramours is bad public policy.
Marriage is the first society into which children are meant to be born, learn to be fully human, grow in virtue, flourish and take their role in families and communities. We must not be afraid to make the claim that children have a right to a mother and a father. They really do. Of course, those who defend marriage for what it really is care about the single parent family and the many broken homes which characterize this age. However, their existence does not change the norm necessary for a stable and healthy society.

In tact marriages and families are the glue of a healthy and happy social order. We need to be a visible, palpable reflection of this truth about marriage and family in our own lives. To live a faithful marriage is now countercultural. The claims concerning marriage as only possible between one man and one woman are not outdated notions of a past era but provide the path to the future.

Catholic Online is, well, Catholic Online. We fully support the teaching of the Catholic Church concerning marriage. Not just because it is catholic, bit because it is true. The position of the Catholic Church on the nature of marriage is crystal clear. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Catholic Church explained in 2003.

"The Church's teaching on marriage and on the complementarity of the sexes reiterates a truth that is evident to right reason and recognized as such by all the major cultures of the world. Marriage is not just any relationship between human beings. It was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose."

"No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman, who by mutual personal gift, proper and exclusive to themselves, tend toward the communion of their persons. In this way, they mutually perfect each other, in order to cooperate with God in the procreation and upbringing of new human lives."

In this, faithful Catholics are joined with Christians from accross the confessional spectrum, faithful Jews, other people of faith and good will in this growing marriage liberation movement. We are the new counter culture of this age. The opponents of marriage and family are the proponents of a system which seeks to impose their new order on the rest of us. We will not back down because our cause is just and true. History has demonstrated that we are on the right side, they are on the wrong side,  and we will prevail.

Civil institutions do not create marriage. Neither can they create some new right to marry for those who are incapable of marriage. Government has long regulated marriage for the common good. The ban on polygamy and age requirements were enforced in order to ensure that there was a mature decision at the basis of the Marriage contract.

Heterosexual marriage, procreation, and the nurturing of children form the foundation for the family, and the family forms the foundation of civil society. Bravo for the courage of the public servants of Australia.
