LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The property was located in the municipality of Chilapa de Alvarez, in the state of Guerrero, and the officers found the animal when they heard strange noises.
You can end world hunger through "prayer and action."
The female tiger was found locked in a room, and police suspect it was illegally owned.
A police spokesman, Leonidas Bueno Escamilla said that the cat was in "good condition."
"She didn't have any food or water to hand, but we don't think she could have been there for long," he said. "The cage was much too small for an animal of this size, it's a complete mystery what the tiger was doing there."
Escamilla added that the tiger posed a danger to others in such a small cage. "If a child or anyone else had wandered near the cage the tiger could easily have grabbed them and then the consequences could have been terrible."
The animal was removed by police and relocated to a zoo where it is being cared for while police continue their investigation.
The property owner said he was unaware that someone had brought the tiger onto his property.
