El Papa Francisco alertó que cuando una persona está apegada al dinero se termina por destruir a sí misma y destruye también a su familia. El dinero y los bienes temporales deben ser bien utilizados y usados para ayudar a los demás, explicó en la homilía de la Misa que presidió este lunes en la capilla de la Casa Santa Marta.

VATICANO (ACI/EWTN Noticias) - Al comentar el Evangelio del día, en el que un hombre pide a Jesús que intervenga para resolver una cuestión de herencia con su hermano, el Papa se refirió a la relación de las personas con el dinero: "este es un problema de todos los días. ¡Cuántas familias destruidas hemos visto por el problema del dinero: hermano contra hermano; padre contra hijo! Es esto lo que causa este apego al dinero, ¡destruye! ¡Cuando una persona está apegada al dinero, se destruye a sí misma, destruye la familia! ¡El dinero destruye! Hace esto, ¿no? Te ataca".

"El dinero sirve para llevar adelante tantas cosas buenas, tantos trabajos para desarrollar la humanidad, pero cuando tu corazón está tan apegado, te destruye", advirtió.

Jesús relata la parábola del hombre rico, que vive para acumular "tesoros para sí mismo" sin enriquecerse ante Dios. Y dijo que la advertencia de Jesús es que estemos lejos de la codicia.

"Es lo que hace mal: la codicia en mi relación con el dinero. Tener más, tener más, tener más... ¡Te lleva a la idolatría, te destruye la relación con los demás! No el dinero, sino la actitud, que se llama codicia. Además esta codicia te enferma, porque te hace pensar sólo en función del dinero. Te destruye, te enferma. Y al final - esto es lo más importante - la codicia es un instrumento de la idolatría, porque va por el camino contrario al que ha hecho Dios con nosotros".

El Papa dijo luego que "San Pablo nos dice que Jesucristo, que era rico, se ha hecho pobre para enriquecernos a nosotros. Este es el camino de Dios: la humildad, el abajarse para servir. En cambio la codicia te lleva por el camino contrario: tú, que eres un pobre hombre, te haces Dios por la vanidad. ¡Es la idolatría!".

Por esta razón, prosiguió Francisco, el Señor Jesús dice cosas "tan duras, tan fuertes, contra este apego al dinero. Y explicó que nos dice que no se puede servir a dos patrones: o a Dios o al dinero. Nos dice que no nos preocupemos, que el Señor conoce nuestras necesidades y nos invita 'al abandono confiado en el Padre, que hace florecer los lirios del campo y da de comer a las aves'".

Mientras el hombre rico de la parábola sigue pensando en las riquezas, si bien Dios le dice: "¡Necio, esta noche se te pedirá tu vida!", el Santo Padre afirmó que este camino contrario al de Dios es una necedad, que nos lleva lejos de la vida y que destruye "toda fraternidad humana":

"El Señor nos enseña cuál es el camino: no es el camino de la pobreza por la pobreza. ¡No! Es el camino de la pobreza como instrumento, para que Dios sea Dios, ¡para que Él sea el único Señor! ¡No el ídolo de oro! Y todos los bienes que tenemos, el Señor nos los da para hacer que el mundo vaya adelante, para que la humanidad vaya adelante, para ayudar, para ayudar a los demás".

Para concluir el Pontífice hizo votos para que "permanezca hoy en nuestro corazón la Palabra del Señor: 'Estén atentos a estar lejos de toda codicia, porque incluso si uno está en la abundancia, su vida no depende de lo que él posee'".
