LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - God created the angels to serve Him and, later, to intervene in the lives of mankind.
Remember, it was an angel who spoke to Mary, an angel who intervened to spare Daniel from the lions and an angel who brought demons into existence.

Lucifer was once a beautiful angel. When he became too vain, he fell from Grace and was banished from Heaven. His followers were also torn from Heaven's embrace, thus demons were created.
Guardian angels are real
See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven. - Matthew 18:10

Angels don't always wear flowing robes and appear with wings
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him, grasping a naked sword. Joshua walked towards him and said to him, 'Are you on our side or on that of our enemies?' He replied, 'On neither side. I have come now as the captain of the army of The Lord...'" - Joshua 5:13-14
An angel appeared to Joshua in the form of a man - and there are other instances in which angels have appeared without the popular white wings and long, flowing robes.
Angels are basically God's warriors
I shall send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebussites. -Exodus 33:2

He looked up, and there he saw three men standing near him. As soon as he saw them he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them, and bowed to the ground...'Where is your wife Sarah?' they asked him. 'She is in the tent,' he replied. Then his guest said, 'I shall come back to you next year, and then your wife Sarah will have a son...' - Genesis 2, 9-10
In this instance, God sent angels in the form of three men. Abraham immediately understood they were not of this world as he made haste to greet and bow to them.
There are also other instances in the Bible that describe how angels have appeared to deliver messages.
God gifted angels with power
but the angels in their greater strength and power make no complaint or accusation against them in the Lord's presence. - 2 Peter 2:11
Angels require quite a bit of strength and power - how else can they protect us and wage war against the enemy and his followers?
Angels are all around us and their number is beyond man's comprehension. They have been gifted with Divine power to suit God's purpose and have been helping mankind since our creation. Never forget to include them in your prayers of thanks.
