Humorous incident comes after he confirms 44 children

Pope Francis's white skullcap, called his zucchetto flew from atop his head on Sunday as he left St. Peter's Square in Rome after a ceremony in which he confirmed 44 children from around the world. The humorous and all too human incident, which occurred for a pope known for his humility, "capped" off an otherwise solemn ceremony where he asked for prayers for victims of the Bangladesh factory collapse.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - It certainly was not the first time a gust of wind has blown the white skullcap off a pope's head. Pope Benedict XVI suffered the same fate seven years ago.

Benedict lost his cap as he crossed Bells Arch in the Vatican City for the general Audience at St. Peter's Square in May 2006. The zucchetto was at that time caught by one of the Pope's aides.

Among the children being confirmed by Pope Francis were Emily Mulcahy and Edmond Roche, of Cork, in Ireland.

Emily's father Paul, who saw his daughter blessed by the new Pontiff, described the day as "unbelievable."

"It was unbelievable. It is very difficult to put something like this into words. I was very emotional at times.

"It was just very overwhelming. There were thousands of people at it. It was like when they announced the Pope was elected. It was absolutely incredible. When Pope Francis began to speak, you could hear a pin drop."

Mulcahy believes that her Confirmation has not yet sunk in with his daughter. "It's been such a roller coaster ride. We are just walking on a high. She went up and was confirmed.

"He blessed her and she walked back down. He met her with the other children before it and he shook her hand and said hello."

Emily chose the Confirmation name Bridget, while Edmond, appropriately enough, went for Francis.

The students were chosen during draws in their parishes. The diocese of Cloyne had been invited by the Vatican to choose a boy and a girl to take part in the unique ceremony, just six weeks into the new Pope's pontificate.

Image of Ignatius of Antioch - I know what is to my advantage. At last I am becoming his disciple. May nothing entice me till I happily make my way to Jesus Christ! Fire, cross, struggles with wild beasts, wrenching of bones, mangling of limbs-let them come to me, provided only I make my way to Jesus Christ. I would rather die and come to Jesus Christ than be king over the entire earth. Him I seek who died for us; him I love who rose again because of us.
