Today's school shooting was in Taft, CA
Likely to fuel drive for more anti-gun policies
Two people were shot in the latest school shooting, this time in Taft, Calif., about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. There were no fatalities.
Taft Union High School was the site of today's school shooting.
Another victim was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.
The Kern County Sheriff's Department reports that a suspect was taken into custody and students were evacuated safely. Students were released from classes to their parents from both the high school and neighboring Lincoln Jr. High School following sweeps by law enforcement to ensure student safety.
Taft is normally a quiet, conservative community built around the local oil industry and a nearby correctional facility.
The shooting is the latest in a rash of incidents that has President Obama, and others focused on gun violence.

This student was talked down by a teacher and a counselor. Interesting facts emerging : this student had been suspended last year because of a "hit list " he had written down. Rumor has it that he had a list made up of those who had bullied him. Obviously he was not emotionally or psychology equipped to return to that environment. Were more mental health services considered? Don't know. One interesting piece of information : this school does have an armed guard assigned to it. Said guard had called off work yesterday. Could more stringent laws have prevented this? Used a shotgun, not an assault weapon. We already have a law that requires that trigger locks and gun safes be used. This wasn't an assault weapon. How about focusing on mental health services and mentoring programs? But wait! That wouldn't involve scape goats or circumventing the Constitution! Now we've got the "million moms " out there! Wonder if there are a million dads partnering with them? Here's a clue ladies! Marry your children's fathers! The best way to stop this madness is the reinstitution of strong, faith filled homes! All the quotes coming from scripture about "putting down swords " and no quotes about adultery or divorce? How easy it is to pick and choose. Live it fully. Nowhere in scripture does it say we get to pick some and ignore the rest. Sad.
