See the Empire State Building's new look! - Brooklyn

Building updated with computer controlled LED lights.

The Empire State Building has a bold new look, like it or not. The iconic building has been dappled with colors from 1,200 LEDs.

New LED lights will allow for even more dynamic displays than the old spotlights.

New LED lights will allow for even more dynamic displays than the old spotlights.

BROOKLYN, NY (Catholic Online) - Workers have labored since June to replace 456 old, gel-covered spotlights with LEDs capable of producing more than 16 million colors.

The building can now light up about two acres worth of space all managed with a few keyboard commands.

The new lights are computer and remote controlled and much more energy efficient than the old spotlights.

The lights are also dynamic, and can change colors rapidly if desired.

Locals think the light displays will be more entertaining and expect to see the lights change with the season.

However, some have objected to the change, concerned the new lighting scheme will be distracting. Management says the lights are only being projected onto the building, not into the streets, so they should not be distracting.

Logos and advertising will not be permitted.
