Black Smoke Over the Sistine Chapel: New Pope Not Chosen on the First Ballot

We ask our readers and viewers around the globe to join with the millions of the faithful -and all people of good - will in continued prayer.

There was no selection of a new Pope on the first ballot cast by the 115 Cardinal Electors. The black smoke, which resulted from the burning of the first round of ballots, confirmed to the world that the Cardinals in the Sistine Chapel did not reach the required vote threshold for the selection to be made.

The smoke was black meaning no pope was selected on the first ballot

VATICAN CITY (Catholic Online) - There was no selection of a new Pope on the first ballot cast by the 115 Cardinal Electors. The black smoke, which resulted from the burning of the first round of ballots, confirmed to the world that the Cardinals in the Sistine Chapel did not reach the required vote threshold for the selection to be made.

Tomorrow, the voting will continue at 9:30 Roman time. That is 4:30 Eastern Time and 1:30 Pacific Time. Once again the world will watch that chimney over the chapel. The first indication will occur a little after noon in Rome whether the second balloy bears the awaited fruit of a new successor of the Apostle Peter.

That means seven o'clock in the morning Eastern Time, and four in the morning in the west.

We ask our readers and viewers around the globe to join with the millions of the faithful -and all people of good - will in continued prayer.
