SUNDAY HOMILY: The Happy Priest - Are You Ready?

fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be 'tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine,' seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.

We, however, have a different goal: the Son of God, the true man. He is the measure of true humanism.  An 'adult' faith is not a faith that follows the trends of fashion and the latest novelty; a mature adult faith is deeply rooted in friendship with Christ.  It is this friendship that opens us up to all that is good and gives us a criterion by which to distinguish the true from the false, and deceit from truth.

We must develop this adult faith; we must guide the flock of Christ to this faith. And it is this faith - only faith - that creates unity and is fulfilled in love."
In order to persevere in these challenging times, we must nourish our faith with the Scriptures, the Eucharist, the Rosary and contemplative prayer.

A daily encounter with the power of God will give us the ability to live with interior peace.

We can easily tire of the struggle.

Personally, I  believe it is far better to drag an exhausted body and spirit through the difficulties of life, rather than to give in to the promptings of the flesh which make us yearn for an easier life.

Rather than to give in to the sirens of comfort, I prefer to hear these words from my Lord at the moment of death: "I know too that you have perseverance, and have suffered for my name without growing tired" (Revelation 2: 3).

This Advent season gives us a fresh opportunity to look at our lives and deepen our relationship with the Lord Jesus who has come already in humility and who will come again in glory.

Dictatorship of relativism also places little value on the lives of people in Bangladesh and Pakistan where the cheap cloths that are sold in Walmart are made. The people locked in a factory making Christmas presents for Americans seems to be off the radar of Catholics who have no other evil in mind than abortion, same sex marriage, and birth control.

People seek integrity which means consistency in living the truth. The witness of people living the whole Gospel would have multitudes seeking Christ. Advent calls us to repent and prepare the way of the Lord for all people, especially the poor, not just those who agree with me.

Well said Father Farfaglia !! You described the doctrine of relativism perfectly. Exodus 20 contains the big ten commandments (not suggestions). I am sharing this with friends.

I thank God for giving His Church; people that can still see the truth in this time where the evil spirit seem to govern the hearts and mind of our brethren.May God and you continue reminding our generation that ego and fleshly desires will never last and that it will never bring us to Gods side...
