St. Francis of Assisi Comments

Founder of the Franciscan Order, born at Assisi in Umbria, in 1181. In 1182, Pietro Bernardone returned from a trip to France to find out his wife had given birth to a son. Far from being excited or apologetic because he'd been gone, Pietro was furious because she'd had his new son baptized Giovanni after John the Baptist. The last thing Pietro wanted in his son was a man of God -- he wanted a man of business, a cloth merchant like he was, and ... Continue Reading

When my parakeet (2 years old) was snatched up by my cat, when I left the room, he bravely flew up to me at a very, very low height and very strained, he smashed into a wall and I saw blood everywhere... spattered all over the wall, on his feathers, face, feet, wings, and on the carpet, I freaked out because I knew animal bites and scratches are fatal to little birds like him... I brought him to an emergency vet and they treated him. They gave him fluids, antibiotics, and tried their best to save the little bird. He had an inch long gash on his left wing joint that exposed the muscle and bone and he so bravely sat in the vet's hand when they had to pull feathers out and put medicine on it. The whole time I prayed to Saint Francis.
My dad didn't tell me this but the vet definitely thought he would die overnight. He didn't!!! I gave him treat blocks at chest height because it was too painful for him to bend down. He had millet spray, lettuce, and broccoli and a water dispenser at beak height. Of course I kept his cage covered and he was in a a hospital cage next to his buddy, Sky. I read to him and kept him comfortable.
The next day when I brought him to the vest for a followup the vet was SO stunned to see him alive and chirping worriedly in his little cage. Everyone around awww'd at my story :)
He wasn't supposed to fly for 2 months, but I had to hold him on his back and put medicine on his wing twice a day and give him medicine by mouth once a day. On the third day when I caught him he FLEW away and made a few laps around my room then landed on my head.
Right now he's sitting next to my desk and he's preening sky's face and chirping happily.
I let him out for an hour today and he made so many laps around my room I couldn't count. He still takes his little bird baths and loves to sit on my shoulder and talk to me.
Pray to Saint Francis if you have an animal problem! He works in miracles! He really helps you whenever you need it.
