Insanity or is the Obama administration targeting Catholics: Priests who minister to troops during shutdown risk arrest Comments

The government shutdown has created some rather ridiculous situations, while other problems are much more serious. Among the most serious ones is the open hostility toward Catholics serving in the military. Priests were told they could not celebrate the Mass and Catholics in the military could not receive the sacraments. Continue Reading

there is no such thing as a clean vote on this funding. It is as dirty as the "slavocracy" used in Lecomtpon. The American people were lied to, bushwhacked by a bunch of legalease. My Congressman either lied to me about what would and would not be funded in this bill or else he was utterly ignorant that Obama would reneg on his promises, and due diligence was not accounted for. (after all, his people told me that yes, he did read the whole bill). We were lied to by the President-it's not a tax, then it is a tax; so if it is a tax it should be the duty of the Peoples House to correct these lies that it took to get this thing passed in the first place. If I remember right, in one of the opinions of the Supreme Court, the blame was laid back on Congress to fix this mess and there are many constitutional questions that will tie up the courts for years. yeah, real clean! How irresponsible is it to consolidate that much power in the Executive branch-beyond the spirit of the Constitution? When the administration can pick and choose who is exempt, and who isn't, where is the due process? Some are just more equal than others, some with big pockets. The little guy has no call to conscience, no exemption. NO, this NEVER was a clean bill, was it Mr. Stupack? Mr. Oberstar? and others. People like you used phony explanations from nuns and such to appease your concerned citizens. With the help of deception and lies, this enabling act was passed.

But, geeze, even at the Nuremberg trials, the Nazis were given access to ministers. Come on, we all know this isn't necessary. Obama, let's trade a shipment of arms to the "brotherhood" in exchange for some ministers. how about one of those tanks?

The Enabling Act was the law of the land also back in the day. how'd that one work out?

Pope Benedicdt XVI said this about truth: "...IT IS NOT FITTING TO STATE IN AN EXCLUSIVE WAY: 'I POSSESS THE TRUTH'. THE TRUTH IS NOT POSSESSED BY ANYONE; IT IS ALWAYS A GIFT WHICH CALLS US TO UNDERTAKE A JOURNEY OF EVER CLOSER ASSIMILATION TO TRUTH. TRUTH CAN ONLY BE KNOWN AND EXPERIENCED IN FREEDOM; FOR THIS REASON WE CANNOT IMPOSE TRUTH ON OTHERS; TRUTH IS DISCLOSED ONLY IN AN ENCOUNTER OF LOVE." BEN XVI #27 Apostolic Letter on Church in the MIddle East

When I read this article, I wondered about the truth of many statements in it; how was this article a journey toward the truth? I studied the propaganda of the Chinese Revolution. In many ways Chinese communists did what this article does: they used half truths and assumptions to push their ideology.

We as Catholic Christians must always be journey toward the truth. Political propaganda does a lot of harm precisely because it mis uses truth. Our role must be to call into question any statement or assumption made without solid evidence. This article makes many statements and assumptions without any evidence.

If we want to create a culture of encounter that Pope Benedict XVI and Francis, Bishop of Rome, call us to do, we must work vigorously to journey toward the truth. Such a journey will challenge our own political ideology and make us at time uncomfortable. Is that not what Jesus did?

I read about this on another website and viewed it as another attack on Catholics. It made me wonder what would happen to Catholics in the military if, since they can not get ministering from military priests, they went off base to civilian priests. Court martial? Article 15?

To: Catholic Online (New Consortium), your comment about The correct solution to reform Obamacare to exempt the HHS edict and rein in Gov't spending and accept Obamacare because it is the law of the land, couldn't be more wrong. 1st, the large majority of Americans had zero say and don't want it then and still don't. 2nd, no Republicans voted for it. It was driven down our throats and we the people had zero say or vote. This President has already changed it 17 times without Congresses consent. I am very much offending by your comments and they must be retracted. This is an insult to us Americans.
When you have Nancy Pelosi saying "we must pass it in order to find out what's in it", and no one has read it, all 2,500 pages, speaks loudly of the worthless of it. Comments welcome!!!

The statement "First Amendment has been thoroughly shredded by the Obama administration."
Please contact the Bekett foundation. They will help you file a law suit and the supreme court will correct the Obama administration.
Then the congress can pass laws (like the Hyde Amendment) to strengthen the First Amendment

Just bear in mind that ALL of this could be averted by a clean vote on the Continuing Resolution. The Tea Party faction of the Republican Party is destroying our country. THIS coming from a Catholic forum infuriates me! Read Matthew 25! The closure of any segment of the government is what happens when you shut down the government. It is NOT an Obama decision. All government should be open and people should be back to work. It is not only government workers that are out of work. Those who contract with the government are out of work too... with no hope of getting their pay back. One company just reached 1000 layoffs. ALL Because the Republicans, not the Obama Administration, won't put a clean Continuing Resolution to a vote. I'm not sure who wrote this article but it is not the official Catholic stance. I'd love to hear the Pope's opinion. I'm sure it would not be as tainted as this article.
