The Papal Conclave, Day 2: What's Wrong With Fox's Shepard Smith? Comments
If Fox News wants to keep its Catholic viewership, which we believe is substantial, it's time for those in charge to make a change. A required month-long retreat and absence from Fox News for Shepard Smith would be a good beginning -- to discourage him and others from sneering at the Church beloved by millions. Continue Reading

Anti-Catholicism is alive and well in this country, although now it is coming from the liberal know-it-alls as well as Protestants. I don't see the need to be too upset, though. If Shep wants to act like an idiot on T.V. he's free to do so, and I'm sure people will stop watching of their own accord. You're right about Fr. Morris, btw. He spoke at my high school 4 or 5 years ago and can certainly hold his own.
Wow! Not that I couldn't see this coming from Mr. Smith but to be that blanitly anti-Catholic is just unacceptable for an anchor to act that way. But as we know the Church will always be hated by this world and Mr. Smith is indeed part of it.
I was of the impression Mr. Shepard Smith was polite and intelligent. It is upsetting to find I was wrong about him on both accounts. I will no longer watch him on Fox News and will pass along this article to ensure others are informed of his voiced unjust disrespect for the Catholic Church and blantant sarcasm.
I stopped watching Shepard Smith on Fox following his commentaries from New Orleans after Katrina. He was reporting about the lack of water for the victims of the hirricane, but I did not see him do anything to help the people. I guess the helicopter was just for him to ferry in and out of the area but not to provide the needed assistance! What do you expect from a jerk.....
Jesus wasn't a transvestite and Catholics don't want to call women father, so it's not an issue... knock off the ugliness, Shep!
Another reason to watch EWTN.
Thanks for reporting this. A video has gone semi-viral with Shep Smith's comments. Maybe there's bitterness underlying his sarcasm from some unresolved antipathy to the Catholic Church's moral positions. That is usually the reason for such hostility.
Perhaps Shep Smith should look into the public school school system and learn that more elementary students are sexually abused even when there is a dominance of female teachers than there were kids abused by priests. The title of the article is "Has Media Ignored Sex Abuse In School?" and can be found on CBSNews.
