Guest Opinion: Sandy Hook and Gun Control. Can Lawmakers Stop the Killings? Comments
If we truly want to prevent further school shootings in this nation, we need to stop fooling ourselves with utopian "feel good" solutions like passing some more anti-gun legislation. We need to look inward and see that, as Pogo famously said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us." Continue Reading

Christ to Dr Liewehr. "He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword."
The U.S. needs to re-read the gospels and discover the real Jesus. How can a "Catholic"web site publish such pro-violence retoric?
So... to be clear, while you and I disagree with Obama on just about every policy issue, there's absolutely no actual, direct connection between him and the "removal" of God from schools. Right? Ok.
Here's a question... why would you WANT God in the schools at all? (And be careful... I don't mean what your initial reaction will likely be with that uestion.)
In regards to violence, I think that is one area we fail to live the gospel. Notice how cutting one dollar from "defense" is hardly on the table? We glorify violence in this country and are always surprised when someone acts out. Same thing happens with sex. We are always focused on the results and never on what causes it all.
I find no place in the gospels where Jesus condones violence. In fact pretty sharp rebuke of Peter when he uses violence. If we insist on living by the sword, well you know the rest.
Karl, Obama is trying to remove God from schools. By attempting to redefine the mission of the private school to become more secular. By forcing his ideology of the human person, a mere creature of the state, on public schools he takes God out of schools. With the mindset of calling human persons punishments, he takes God out of the schools. With his ideology, government makes a better parent and a better god. He appoints people who take natural law, of nature and nature's God, out of the American vocabulary, so we have nearly forgotten our memory and identity. It's just too darn negative. Thou shalt not this and thou shalt not that, just tlike or constitution.
Where is God, in Obama's decision to force unGodly sterilization and the unGodly killing of the innocents on to school administrations? first amendment be damned. Licentiousness now wears the dress of Liberty into the schools of our youth, fooling the young with full consent of our sadly misguided president of these divided states. She wears many masks of deception in our schools of knowledge. She takes away the key to knowledge. The gun used for evil is a more visible manifestation, but much evil exists. It is all very sad. But, where is the president's recognition of God in each and every human being? NO, let a little one among us die, cold and alone because his parents just don't want him. although he could have had his whole life ahead of him. How many more die in this fashion? millions. Their cries go unheeded.
Why has he not publicy condemned the shouts from those in his party to kill those in the NRA? The evil thoughts coming from the pen can also blow a hole of mayhem and murder bigger than the round from a .223. That evil is the same evil that spawned a killer of children in school. It is ignored by those who will now, on a cause from a state of emergency, attempt to regulate more freedoms away.
It's the same evil that was the cause for Americans to take up arms in the first place. Americans were deprived of their duty to protect their very own families. I grieve for these families, for these children, but none will grieve more than their parents, as they are the closest in bonds to them. We must put God in our own hearts and minds to temper this evil, until Christ the King reigns on all the earth. a kid hellbent on murder will only bring bombs and shotguns and whatever else his evil imagination can come up with, as illustrated in Columbine. Banning assault weapons will do nothing. As long as evil exists in this world, people will need to protect His image in themselves, and sometimes an unintended effect of that is the ending of another human life hellbent on evil.
II totally agree that EVIL is rising its ugly head in a nation that lost its faith in God.But I also dont agree with the author on the argument that abortion is one of these EVILS.
Abortion IS NOT A NESCESSITY and SHOULD BE RARE like in cases WHERE THE MOTHERS LIFE IS AT STAKE.I believe the Catholic Church should embrace the Jewish view on abortion which is based on the LEGAL and ETHICS teaching of the Jewish laws,as they make complete sense even in the scientific term .
Abortion is just a TOOL, a METHOD and like any other it can be misused.
On the Gun Control issue,I'm quite amazed by how many of the US citizens misintrepert the 2nd amandement, cause I believe that the right to bear arms is the to protect the citizens from oppression from the central Government and protect the USA from foreign enemies should the government failed to halt an invasion. So its a check and balance system.Nowhere it is said that the 2nd amandement was written so that citizens can own arms to protect them from bad guys-criminals.For that you have the Police. And yes, you can bear arms to protect what is rightfully yours. So IF I'm a US citizen then I'm siding the NRA,but only to protect my rigths as a US citizen and my country.
Wait... first of all, no one's a "guna phobe." That's silly... no one has attacked legal gun ownership. But where are you getting the idea that more people are defended by guns in their homes than are harmed by people with guns? That' justt ridiculous... the ctual statistics show very clearly that more people are hurt with their own firearms in their own homes by a VAST majority than are protected, and your notion that more people are "defended" by them than are murdered... SERIOUSLY??? Do you live in the United States? That's just not even CLOSE to being true!
Let's explore "Gun-o-phobe" for a minute. Have you ever been shot at? Targeted, sited, and shot at? I have, many times, and let me tell you... anyone that tells you its not frightening is either lying or has never had the experience. This isn't a video game!
And you've ignorred the question all together... how can a person claim to be "pro life" but want a firearm for "protection?"
Far more people justifiable protect themselves and their loved ones every year thanks to guns than murders. You people who are gunaphob's need to stop your attacks on law abiding gun owners and focus your attention on what is truly the problem. The evil hearts of man and the poor focus on mental health issues.
How come we keep changing the subject? Why doesn't anyone want to talk about what kind of gun Jesus would carry?
Wait... Robert, what, specifically, has the Obama administration actually done to remove God from public schools in America?
Please be very specific.
Dear Friends,
I don't know who wrote the poem below, but it is beautiful. I couldn't hold back the tears. It is dedicated to the children killed in Newtown, Ct.
TWAS 11 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38,
When 20 beautiful children stormed through Heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air,
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say,
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse,
"This is Heaven" declared a small boy, "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
When what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled and they smiled just the same,
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And, in that moment, was joy that only Heaven can bring,
Those children all flew into the arms of their King.
And, as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned & looked at Jesus' face.
As if He could read all the questions she had,
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of Mom and Dad."
Then He looked down on Earth, the world far below,
He saw all the hurt, the sorrow and woe.
Then He closed His eyes and outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land."
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools,
I'm taking back My nation, I'm taking back My schools."
Then He and the children stood up without a sound,
"Come now My children, let Me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran,
All displaying enthusiasm, that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim, as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."
