Surprising and Historic Vote: Archbishop Timothy Dolan Elected as President of United States Bishops Conference Comments

Most pundits and ecclesial commentators strongly predicted Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson would be elected to succed Cardinal George on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. In response to what they considered a foregone conclusion, a portion of the Catholic blogosphere was preparing to respond with anything but glowing acclamation. Then, a surprise of the Holy Spirit occurred, demonstrating, once again, who is really in charge of His Church. The ... My brief but remarkable meeting with Archbishop Timothy Dolan in Haiti, soon after the January earthquake, convinces me that he will be a charismatic, caring, and courageous leader of the Catholic Church in the United States. Congratulations!

The real question isn't that Timothy Dolan got 128 votes as USCCB President.

The real question is: Given the facts of the case, why Gerald Kicanas got 111 votes from fellow bishops. Or why he got any votes from them at all.

A more appropriate statement would have been, 'The Holy Spirit has shown us the direction He wants His flock to follow'. Praise God for this clear message. Amen, Amen! May Bishop Dolan remember who was at work here...and make sure the USCCB continues the restoration of a battered Church. Please don't allow the temptations of leadership and power sudduce you to the dark side. Pray for him to keep his focus on who he serves...

USCCB Pres-elect Dolan stated in a televised interview with the press that he wants to be involved in Politics. The CCC clearly states: 2245 & 2246 that the Church is not to be confused in any way with the political community, and may only pass moral judgement in matters related to politics whenver the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls require it. Do you think he read the CCC? By the way Everett, there is no where in Scripture or the CCC that requires any portion of the Church to give unnecessary, bloated and high-paying jobs to anyone. That donation money can be put to better use for the real needs in each US Diocese. With more and more people out of work - scarcer donation money needs to be put to its best and highest use - helping families keep their homes, feeding and clothing the poor, utilites and heat for those in need, and providing shelter for the homeless.

No Everett, the USCCB does not always hire the best candidates as evidenced by their recent history in giving millions of Catholic dollars to Obama's ACORN, etc., nor should they keep employees with objectives and goals different than the Catholic Church. Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky - "True revolutionaries do not flaunt their radicalism. They cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within". Alinsky viewed revolution as a slow, patient process. "The trick is to penetrate existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties...." The only way the USCCB can police their employees is to insure that anyone who does not support the "Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition" needs to be fired. They can get jobs working for George Soros, Drummond Pike and Wade Rathke of TIDES, or Peter Lewis of Progressive Insurance. When the USCCB quits taking my Parish and Diocese money, only then they can do whatever they want. If it were not for the MANDATED money they get, the USCCB would never have 300+ employees in the first place. Violation of the CCC even by a Bishop is NOT acceptable.

Everett, when there is FORCED formula contributions from each Diocese, then the USCCB effects all of us. This is supposed to be Catholic not the US government. See "Obamas Counterfiet Catholics" by RealCatholicTV on the net. You then understand some of the issues. The USSCB has given millions to now defunct ACORN (Democratic Party operatives), and other pro-abortion, pro-gay lifestyle, pro-fake global warming (now climate control) groups. If employees are not required to adhere to the "CCC 2nd Ed" then Catholic dollars will continue to be used against our Church and beliefs. Who your parish hires is your business, the USCCB takes money from all of us. Since Everett is supporting Apb Dolan, now we all know we are in trouble. Jesus told us to give to the poor not use our money to support a bureaucracy. And Bishops are required to teach and Save Souls.

Am I the only who has a problem with the USCCB collecting money specifically stated for one Country and giving 40% of it to another? Catholics across the US donated, in just one weekend in January, $82.6 million. This special collection for Haiti was intended to be used for emergency relief and to rebuild the Church in Haiti. In March, the Administrative Committee endorsed a proposal from the Committee on the National Collections and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to allocate 60% of the Special Collection to CRS for humanitarian assistance and 40% to the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America for ecclesial needs. How can we trust anything they do ? Abp Dolan was Chair of the Catholic Relief Services who helped give the Haitian money to Latin America without consideration for the donors.

Praise God for the great news that Archbishop Dolan is the new President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops! The Holy Spirit never fails His people.
Archbishop Dolan has always had an exuberence for the Faith. He is what we Catholics in the U.S. need to lead us, and continue to shape us and the rest of the Christian community as people who Love and Serve each other in Christ.
It is a great day for the Church and for Archbishop Dolan!
All of the parishoners and friends of his over these many years wish him God's Speed.
Love and prayers fom all the Fitzsimmons
